With so many recovery tools on offer in Dubai, the hardest part is knowing how to fit them into a normal week. The aim is a routine you will actually follow, not the longest list of devices. This guide gives a simple framework you can adapt to your training.
Start with the basics
Devices work best on top of good fundamentals: sleep, hydration, enough food and a sensible training load. In the UAE, where many residents report poor sleep and training happens in the heat, those basics matter even more. No device replaces them.
What each tool is for
- Cold plunge: short cold immersion can reduce muscle soreness after hard sessions and feels refreshing in the heat. See our cold plunge guide.
- Sauna: heat exposure for relaxation and general wellness; the large Finnish studies are on traditional saunas. See the sauna guide.
- Compression boots: mainly reduce perceived leg soreness. See the compression boots guide.
- Red light therapy: studied for muscle recovery, with the best results when used before exercise. See the red light guide.
A sample week
This is an example, not a prescription. Adjust it to your sport, schedule and how you feel.
- Monday (hard session): compression boots in the evening and an early night.
- Tuesday (easy day): red light session before a light workout.
- Wednesday (hard session): short cold plunge, then compression boots at home.
- Thursday (rest): sauna or infrared blanket session and a walk.
- Friday (hard session): compression boots after training.
- Weekend: a contrast session combining heat and cold, plus a long sleep.
Research does not settle the best order for combining these tools, so keep it simple, add one tool at a time and notice what makes you feel better.

Safety and common sense
- Introduce one new tool at a time and keep sessions short at first.
- Speak to a doctor if you have heart, blood-pressure or circulation conditions, are pregnant or take regular medication.
- Hydrate well, especially around sauna and hot-weather training.
- If something causes pain or dizziness, stop.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best recovery routine for beginners?
Start with sleep and hydration, then add one tool, such as compression boots or a short cold session, two or three times a week.
Can I use cold and heat in the same session?
Many people alternate heat and cold in a contrast session. Start gently, keep exposures short and ask your doctor first if you have a medical condition.
How many recovery tools do I need?
Most people do well with one or two they enjoy and use consistently. More devices do not guarantee better recovery.
Should I use red light before or after training?
The strongest results in a 2023 review were seen when red light was used before exercise, though many people use it after training too.
Where can I try these in Dubai?
Restore at Sunset Mall offers guided cold, heat, compression and red light sessions, and a membership option for regular visits.
